Heavy Rains Lash Chennai; Weather Dept Forecasts More Across State in Next 6 Days

by admin

Heavy rains lashed Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting normal life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rains across the state in the next six days.

The rains, which began late Wednesday night, continued intermittently throughout Thursday. Several areas of Chennai, including Tambaram, Pallavaram, and Velachery, were waterlogged, while traffic was thrown out of gear.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Chennai and several other districts of Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy to very heavy rains in the next six days. The department has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning activity.

The rains have been attributed to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move northwestwards and intensify over the next few days.

The Tamil Nadu government has advised people to stay indoors and avoid venturing out into low-lying areas. The government has also deployed disaster relief teams to the affected areas.

The rains have brought some relief from the scorching heat that has been gripping the state in recent months. However, the heavy downpours have also caused some damage to property and infrastructure.

The IMD is closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates as and when necessary.
