In the 37th match of the 2023 World Cup, India secured a resounding victory, defeating South Africa by 243 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India won the toss and chose to bat first, accumulating 326 runs on the board. Virat Kohli played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten century, his 49th in ODIs, equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s world record. Shreyas Iyer contributed 77 runs, and Rohit Sharma added 40 runs to the total. In response, South Africa struggled, managing only 83 runs, succumbing to India’s bowlers.

With this victory, India maintained its unbeaten streak, securing eight consecutive wins and securing the top spot in the points table. South Africa, on the other hand, suffered its second defeat in the tournament, which could affect team morale despite having already qualified for the semi-finals.

India’s innings saw Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provide a strong start with a 62-run partnership. However, after Rohit’s dismissal, Kohli and Iyer combined for a crucial 134-run partnership. India finished at 326/5 in their 50 overs.

South Africa’s batting struggled throughout their innings, with Ravindra Jadeja taking five wickets for India. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav also contributed with two wickets each, while Mohammad Siraj claimed one wicket.

In summary, India’s strong batting performance, led by Kohli’s century, was complemented by an outstanding bowling display, securing a convincing win against South Africa.
