Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed on December 8 that India is set to deploy a staggering 4,500 Vande Bharat trains across the nation by 2047. Currently, in 2023, there are 23 Vande Bharat trains operational. Expressing the ambitious vision, Scindia stated, “Our mission is to run 4,500 Vande Bharat trains by 2047.” Furthermore, he shared plans for India’s inaugural high-speed bullet train, expected to commence operations between 2026 and 2027. Additionally, Scindia disclosed that the second airport in Navi Mumbai will be operational by the end of 2024, while the Noida International Airport in Jewar is slated to open by the close of next year. A new airport in Ayodhya is also expected to be ready by December’s end and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Emphasizing a paradigm shift since 2014, Scindia highlighted India’s accelerated growth and development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The minister pointed out that the railway system is growing at an unprecedented rate, with the construction of the world’s highest railway bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. He lauded PM Modi’s transformative vision for the country, especially in the development of previously overlooked regions like Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states.

Addressing concerns over escalating airfares, Scindia assured the Lok Sabha that airlines have committed to avoiding surges, especially during events such as natural disasters. In response to the demand-supply gap, Scindia encouraged airlines to acquire more aircraft and increase flight operations. He emphasized the need for self-regulation within the aviation sector and urged airlines to consider passenger interests when setting airfares. Scindia noted the substantial growth in air travel, with the number of air passengers increasing from 6 crore in 2014 to 14.5 crore at present. He predicted a threefold growth, accommodating 42 crore air passengers by 2030.

As India envisions a comprehensive transformation in its transportation infrastructure, the initiatives outlined by Scindia reflect a commitment to sustainable development and increased connectivity across the nation.
