Storage-Hungry: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Consumes 213GB, Dominates Gaming Space, and Limits Alternatives

by admin

The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is creating quite a stir with its enormous appetite for storage space. To experience the full game, you’re looking at a whopping 213GB, specifically requiring SSD storage – no traditional hard drives allowed.

Now, if you’re willing to compromise on the visuals or play only the multiplayer or single-player parts, the storage needs decrease to 79GB or 149GB, respectively. But to savor the entire experience with high-quality graphics, it’s that colossal 213GB demand.

Despite SSD prices dropping recently, accommodating such a massive game presents a challenge. Even with a roomy 2TB SSD, after considering the operating system, additional files, and keeping the SSD from being too full, having numerous games at 213GB each becomes quite impractical.

For instance, if every game required over 200GB and you had a 4TB SSD, you’d only fit around 15 games. This storage demand pushes towards using multiple SSDs, which might significantly increase costs.

The trend of big games needing more and more space isn’t new, but exceeding the 200GB mark seems excessive. It raises questions about how much game developers consider the limitations of gamers’ hardware, hinting that they might assume Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is the only game players want to install.
