The San Antonio Spurs pulled off a miraculous comeback on Tuesday night, defeating the Phoenix Suns 115-114 despite trailing by as many as 20 points in the third quarter. The Spurs were led by Keldon Johnson, who scored 27 points and stole the ball from Kevin Durant with less than seven seconds left to set up the game-winning layup. Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, also had a strong game for the Spurs, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Gregg Popovich proud of team
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was proud of his team’s effort in the comeback win, saying, “We made a gazillion mistakes, but it’s a game of mistakes. So does every team. We just kept playing, that’s the best thing about the group. I was really proud of them.”
Popovich has been known for his tough coaching style over the years, but he has also been known to praise his players when they deserve it. This was one of those occasions, as the Spurs showed a lot of heart and resilience to come back from a big deficit.
The Spurs’ comeback win over the Suns was a big one, as it showed that they are capable of competing with the top teams in the Western Conference. It will be interesting to see how they build on this win in the coming weeks.
